Meet the Sussex Cancer Fund team

Dr Bloomfield trained at The Middlesex Hospital London, and trained in Oncology at The Middlesex, Mount Vernon and The Royal Marsden Hospitals. He spent 2 years as an International Research Fellow at Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto and studied Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Toronto. Clinically his site specialties are breast cancer, urology and testicular cancer. He has a long standing interest in improving treatments by involvement in clinical trials, and is Course Director for the Masters Programme in Oncology at the Institute of Cancer. The current challenge locally is to expand the infrastructure of the department to enable us to deliver modern treatment on time in pleasant surroundings. We are liaising closely with the Medical School to benefit from the changes taking place in the local hospitals and to ensure that the doctors of tomorrow have a sound understanding of the principles and importance of cancer management.

Joanna joined the Sussex Cancer Fund in June 2019 as the Marketing and Communications Officer. She is a Chartered Marketer with over twenty years of experience and enjoys all aspects of marketing but her passion for the charity prompted her to join the team. Joanna is responsible for all of the Sussex Cancer Fund’s communications and would love to hear from any fundraisers or Business Ambassadors planning a fundraising event or activity so we can help spread the word.

Frank is an experienced chief executive in the NHS having led both hospital and community services. He has also spent time with NHS Improvement, working in the most challenged organisations to help them on their recovery, leading the national programme of Financial Special Measures. Frank lives in Brighton and previously worked with BSUH helping to build the new Royal Alexandra Hospital. He is passionate about improving care and experience for patients and committed to help find better outcomes for those dealing with cancer.

Russell has over 30 years experience working for global companies in Food Ingredients, Printing Consumables and Speciality Chemicals. He has also lived in Singapore and Belgium and has worked around the world in regional and global Human Resources, Communications and Compliance roles. Russell has a passion for strategy, fundraising and effective teams – and joined the SCF Board as a Director and Trustee in April 2022 because of the terrific reputation of the Sussex Cancer Fund and his determination to make a positive difference to people who are going through difficult times.

Jean Tremlett is the Deputy Chairperson and is a therapy Radiographer who trained at the Royal Marsden hospital. Since leaving RMH in 1994 she has worked in Christchurch and Dunedin in New Zealand. On returning to the UK she worked at King Edward 7th hospital Midhurst and Mount Vernon hospital. After obtaining her MSC in Radiotherapy and Oncology from Sheffield Hallum University she moved to Sussex in 2003. She has filled a number of roles at the Sussex Cancer Centre including 13 years as research radiographer (this led to national involvement with a number of Radiotherapy clinical trials, team leader, risk and error Radiographer, head and neck radiographer and is currently working as a senior treatment radiographer. This includes working at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Eastbourne Radiotherapy unit and Preston Park radiotherapy centre. Jean is passionate about offering all patients the best care possible. In her spare time Jean enjoys walking, watching cricket and her allotment.

David has a long history with the Sussex Cancer Fund having worked in most departments over at the Sussex Cancer Centre, including First Contact, Radiotherapy, and Chemotherapy. As a result, he has seen first-hand the work of the Sussex Cancer Fund and how it benefits the staff and patients and has a good understanding of their needs. David said, “I feel honoured to now become part of this amazing charity and I hope to continue their great work and provide even more help and support to cancer patients in Sussex.”
